Students in Drummers with Attitude (DWA) play bucket drums at the Trenton Thunder baseball game.

Bristol Township School District held a Drummers with Attitude (DWA) summer camp from June 16 – July 2, with a DWA performance at the Trenton Thunder baseball game on July 2. Led by Kevin Travers, DWA is a diverse group of student drummers that has been performing since 2000 throughout the Philadelphia area.

The summer camp, held at Neil A. Armstrong Middle School, featured a morning and afternoon session with participants capped at 20 students per session. Students in fourth through 12th grade for the 2021-22 school year participated. At the beginning of each session, students played sports and physical activities such as knockout basketball, kickball and corn hole. Later in the session, students practiced bucket drumming and percussion rhythms.

On the last day of the camp, July 2, the DWA drummers performed on right field at the Trenton Thunder baseball game and featured on the jumbotron. “I couldn’t believe the overwhelming reaction to the game,” said Travers. “Families were so excited.”
