First graders study the science of sound

Mrs. Gigliotti’s first grade science classes had fun making “old-school” string telephones! Students learned about sound sources, sound receivers and vibrations. They enjoyed speaking into cups to create sound waves which are converted into vibrations at the bottom of the cup. The vibrations travel along the string and are converted back into sound waves at the other end so their friends could hear what they said. The students really loved their “long-distance” conversations!
