The Kutztown Area School District (KASD) recognizes the role of parents as a child’s first teacher. As a learning community, we value our relationship with families, with whom we endeavor to instill a love of reading and learning in all children. Through the generous support of the Kutztown Area School District Education Foundation, KASD has launched the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Through this program, from birth until the child’s fifth birthday, all children living in the district may receive one new book each month mailed to their residence. That means that every child born and raised in the district could enter kindergarten with a personal library of 60 books! Selected by an expert panel in early childhood literacy, books include Caldecott and other award-winning titles and include reading tips for parents and caregivers. Since launching our campaign, almost 200 children have participated in this shared literacy experience. Our goal is to grow the program so that all students entering kindergarten may do so with favorite books and stories to share from literature-rich early childhood experiences.
