Fifth grade teacher Michelle Petty, student Sophie Curley and school social worker Joy Stickney-McDonald wore blue and green on May 17 for NF awareness.

To raise awareness of Neurofibromatosis (NF), Mill Creek Elementary School students and staff wore blue and green on May 17 and were encouraged to donate $1 or more towards Children’s Tumor Foundation whose mission is to end NF.

NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. It occurs in one of every 3,000 people, affecting more than 2.5 million people worldwide. NF also affects fifth grade student Sophie Curley, who was diagnosed at three months old. Sophie has been raising NF awareness at Mill Creek Elementary School since 2018. There is no cure for NF yet and she helps raise money each year to go towards research to end NF.
