Program encourages students to Read S’more Books

To keep Neshannock Elementary School students engaged in learning over the summer, Mrs. Elyse Patrick, Title 1 reading specialist and Mrs. Amy Ebner, elementary librarian, launched a summer reading program that puts books in the hands of students and motivates them to read. “Read S’more Books” provides a website with videos on reading strategies for each weekday an activity calendar, access to e-books and audiobooks, and more. For a fun motivation, students who participate can notify the teachers via a webform each time they read a book, and another s’more is added to the student’s digital “S’more Tower” on the website. And prizes are included! To facilitate participation in the program, the school library offers curbside book pickup. Students can reserve desired books via their school web account and the books are bagged and available for pickup in the school’s vestibule during designated times.
